StormBag Basics

What exactly is a StormBag?
Step 01

StormBag is a modern, super-absorbent bag that serves as a replacement for traditional sandbags. Inside the biodegradable jute bag is a non-toxic polymer that absorbs water, expanding the bag from 0.5 kg (1 lb) to nearly 15 kg (33 lbs) in just 3-5 minutes.

How is a StormBag activated?
Step 02

It's simple. Submerge the dry bag in fresh water (e.g., in a bathtub, pool, stream, or even a large bucket). In 3 to 5 minutes, the bag will fully absorb the water and be ready for use.

How much does one StormBag weigh?
Step 03

A dry bag weighs about 500 grams (1 lb), making it extremely easy to transport and store. After activation with water, it reaches a weight of approximately 15 kg (33 lbs).

Usage and Application

Can I use salt water to activate it?
Step 01

No. StormBag is designed for activation in fresh water only. The chemical composition of salt water prevents proper absorption. However, once the bag is activated with fresh water, it can be used as an effective barrier against incoming salt water.

How long does a StormBag stay activated (inflated)?
Step 02

As long as it is in contact with water, the StormBag will remain fully activated. If left in a dry, warm place, it will gradually dry out over several weeks and return to its original state, after which it can be stored again.

How many times can I reuse the same bag?
Step 03

A StormBag can be dried and reused multiple times. The number of cycles depends on the conditions of use. If the bag is not physically damaged, it can be used again.

What is the shelf life of an unused StormBag?
Step 03

Unopened and stored in a dry place, a StormBag has a shelf life of 5 years.

Env. friendly

  • Is StormBag harmful to the environment?

No. The bag is made of natural jute, and the internal polymer is non-toxic and biodegradable. StormBag is an environmentally friendly solution.

  • How do I properly dispose of a StormBag after use?

You have two eco-friendly options. You can let it dry and store it for the next use. The second option is to cut the bag open and mix the contents (the polymer) with soil in your garden or for your plants. The polymer is excellent for retaining moisture in the soil, helping plants during dry periods.
